CW: State Terror, Death, Apartheid
I want to share some resources and some facts regarding the ongoing violence in Palestine. My heart is crying out for the people of Gaza, of the West Bank, of Sheikh Jarrah, and of every Palestinian living in fear right now of the state terror and violence being brought upon them.
I place my thoughts after, but please take a moment tonight to read, watch, or listen to Palestinians and other relevant organizations on the ground:
Mhmd Krd – One of the lead voices from the East Jerusalem neighborhood Sheikh Jarrah. After a series of international news appearances, was dragged out of his home a few hours again and forcibly expelled from his neighborhood.
Jewish Voice for Peace Action – Anti-Zionist Jewish Organization fighting for the human rights of Palestinians.
Issam Adwan – International Observer at the Carter Center. In Gaza. May have to translate tweets.
Fayrouz Sharqawi – Director, Grassroots Al-Quds (Jerusalem, in Arabic), organizing to give Palestinians a voice in the future of Jerusalem.
IMEU – A news organization gathering footage of violence from across Palestine tonight.
Over the past few days, the people of Palestine have cried out against indiscriminate bombings against children and civilians, ethnic cleansing through lynchings, mob violence, and forced evictions, the collective punishment of nearly 2 million civilians, the continuance of a 73 year long military occupation that controls access to and availability of food, water, medicine, roads, and freedoms of any kind, and a tiered citizenship model based on ethnicity.
The impunity with which Israel operates on the bodies and minds of Palestinian people is unconscionable. This is not a “both sides” situation. One “side” has one of the strongest militaries in the world, receives billions and billions of dollars from the USA, is occupying the other, stealing land, and destroying rights. That is an asymmetical relationship, one of dehumanization and domination.
Just as militarism in the USA has continued to systemically destroy black and indigenous human beings at home, so the methods and tactics for that systemic destruction of the “other” are forged and expanded, tested and tried in the communities of Gaza and the West Bank. As Angela Davis points out: the struggles against the forces of oppression are intertwined.
If you are wondering how to help, follow the Palestinian voices. You can begin here with Issam Adwan.
Please pray if you pray. Share if you would like. Act if you feel moved.
